A frustrating side effect with losing weight or getting older is the development of loose skin. At the plastic surgery practice of Scott E. Kasden, M.D., we offer arm lift surgery (or brachioplasty) as a treatment for patients who cannot seem to tighten and tone the arm with diet and exercise alone. Lax skin from the elbow to the upper arm is very common, especially for men and women who have lost weight or are advancing in age. An arm lift effectively removes this unwanted skin, commonly referred to as "bat wings." Dr. Scott Kasden, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Argyle, TX is very experienced in skin tightening and fat removal methods. If you would like to learn more about how brachioplasty can enhance the physique of your arms, please call and schedule a consultation.

"Dr. Kasden performed both my breast and arm lift procedures. Both were successful with great results. Dr. Kasden spends as much time as needed to explain the procedures and to answer questions. He has a great bedside manner and is very caring. He called my husband to check on my progress after I was discharged from both day surgeries and I was able to text him or speak with him if I had any concerns or questions during recovery. He offers a very personalized type of care and tells you exactly what to expect post surgery. On top of that, he has a great sense of humor and makes patients feel comfortable. I really appreciated that. Highly recommend him. Sharon, who is the office manager, is extremely friendly and also very caring. She always inquires how I am doing when I call or come in for post-op visits."

"Wonderful Experience - My experience with Dr. Kasden was amazing and all that I was hoping for. If I may speak with the big girls for a moment, I was 5’5”, 200lbs when I first visited Dr. Kasden. I had my very own innner tube around my waist and arm fat that waved goodbye all by itself. I searched the websites of many cosmetic surgery clinics and saw nothing but skinny girls wanting to tuck what I wish I had! My first consultation was with Dr. Kasden, he spent over an hour in the room with me. He listened and understood exactly what my goals for surgery were. As pleased as I was, I owed it to myself to seek a second and third opinion which I did. At the conclusion of my search, it was clear, Dr. Kasden’s experience, compassion and office staff, had my trust. My Panniculectomy, Brachioplasty and lipo was August, 2017 and I’ve scheduled for lipo in additional areas May with Dr. Kasden. Ladies best of luck to you in your search for your procedure. Dr. Kasden exceeded my expectations."

"Best Decision - Dr. Kasden for Breast Lift, Arm Lift, & Neck Lipo - After several consults with other highly rated Drs. in an area with lots of qualified plastic surgeons, I chose Dr. Kasden for Breast Lift, Arm Lift, & Neck/Chin Lipo at age 46, post-significant weight loss, and 8 years after breastfeeding twins. I knew he had experience with patients like me and he did not disappoint. I am beyond pleased - Dr. Kasden spent almost two hours with me during the first consult, alone, was honest about expectations, and even had me watch videos of some procedures he had performed to make sure I knew what I was getting into. Dr. Kasden was always “there” for me during the recovery period and even met with me on a Sunday within hours of me calling him about a concern so he could evaluate me. His coordinator, Beth, was caring, helpful, and got to know me and my story personally. The surgery itself was long (9 hours) and the recovery was, too - I didn’t start to feel like I had turned the “corner” for about 6 weeks - but, with Dr. Kasden’s help, the results were worth it. I’m now planning to return for tummy tuck and possibly breast implants. If you are truly ready to embark on a journey to realistically transform your body, understand that surgery isn’t pretty and comes with real risks, and want a surgeon who cares about how you look and feel, well beyond your surgery date, then call Dr. Kasden! Before/After pics forthcoming."

An arm lift is a cosmetic surgery that features innovative techniques to slim and excise excess skin. If you are self-conscious about your flabby arms and want them to look taut and trim again, you are a good candidate for this procedure. You should be in good overall health so that your body will heal well. Some of the most common issues for an arm lift patient are excess loose skin on the upper arms, and lost elasticity of the skin. It is also important that you are at a stable, healthy weight prior to surgery.
Most likely, your arm lift surgery will take place in an outpatient setting, unless multiple plastic surgeries are being performed at the same time. An arm lift can be combined with other procedures (usually performed in an inpatient setting for monitoring), such as a tummy tuck or thigh lift in an after weight loss surgery — if Dr. Kasden decides it is safe. An arm lift is usually performed under general anesthesia and may take several hours to complete. The excess skin will be excised from the elbow all the way up to the underarm. The incision will be made in as inconspicuously as possible, but it will most likely leave a visible scar. If liposuction is needed to remove stubborn fatty deposits, this will be performed as well. Once the skin is tightened, it will be sutured back into place. You will need to keep the incisions clean, bandaged, and wrapped with compression garments.
Your recovery period should last about two weeks before you can resume normal activities. You use your arms for many things so you should ease their way back into your normal routines. A suture removal appointment will be set approximately ten days after surgery. Compression garments should be worn until you are told by Dr. Kasden. For at least a month, exercise should be avoided with the exception of taking short walks. If you develop excessive swelling, uncontrolled bleeding, hematoma (fluid buildup), infection, loss of feeling in the arms or hands, or heavy scarring, please contact our office for assistance.
How much does arm lift surgery cost?
Your cost for arm lift surgery will depend on many factors. Before he can determine your costs, Dr. Kasden will perform a consultation to listen to your needs and goals. After that, he can create your surgical plan and estimate your costs. To make it easier to afford a skilled plastic surgeon like Dr. Kasden and get your best results, our office accepts many payment methods. We can also help you find low-interest medical financing.
Can I combine an arm lift with other surgeries?
It is common for arm lift patients to combine this surgery with another procedure. This is sometimes referred to as an upper body lift and may include liposuction, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), or breast surgery (breast lift). An arm lift is also commonly performed as part of an after weight loss surgery for patients who have lost a large amount of weight and want full body contouring. During your consultation with Dr. Kasden, each surgery will be discussed so your unique surgical plan can be developed.
Will there be scars?
Arm lift surgery requires incisions to remove excess skin, which means there will be stitches and scarring. However, Dr. Kasden makes every effort to ensure that your incisions are small and placed in inconspicuous areas. After your surgery, topical ointments to assist in scar healing will be recommended along with other tips for scar care management. Dr. Kasden also recommends you avoid sun exposure during the first year to protect the incisions from any additional discoloration. Most patients believe the benefits of a more toned arm outweigh the appearance of scars.
What results can I expect from an arm lift?
An arm lift is performed to address hanging skin and fat. You should maintain a healthy lifestyle that includes diet and exercise in order to avoid a dramatic weight loss or gain, which could compromise your surgical results. Following your surgery, once your arms are fully healed and Dr. Kasden has authorized it, you can begin weight training. This is a great way to add shape to your arms by building the muscles.
Are there nonsurgical treatments to improve my arms?
While there are many great nonsurgical skin tightening treatments, most will only provide mild improvements. To remove moderate to severe amounts of loose skin, an arm lift is your best option. Along with removing excess skin, Dr. Kasden also liposuctions small amounts of fat and smoothes the remaining skin and tissue for a better result. If you are interested in nonsurgical options, Dr. Kasden can explain all possible treatments during your consultation and help you decide which is best for your needs and goals.
Whatever you call the "bat wings" or droopy skin on your arms, plastic surgeon Dr. Kasden calls it as an opportunity to change your life with plastic surgery. This exciting procedure offers emotional and physical benefits, as well as toned upper arms. If you are at your goal weight and still cannot lose the flab and skin that hang from your upper arms, please call and schedule a private consultation at the plastic surgery practice of Scott E. Kasden, M.D.
