ABOUT FACIAL FAT GRAFTING

There are plenty of options that restore the youthful fullness and contours of your face, but facial fat grafting is growing in popularity because of its natural results and lasting benefits. Loss of volume, most commonly due to aging, tends to be most noticeable around the jawline, cheeks, and eyes. Facial fat grafting is used to reduce the most common signs of aging, and it restores plumpness by smoothing facial wrinkles and folds in your face through your natural fat. By taking excess fat from your body, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Scott Kasden can artfully re-inject the fat into the needed areas of your face for beautiful, lasting results. With facial fat grafting, you not only get a more youthful facial appearance, you improve the contours of your body. To learn more about facial fat grafting, contact the plastic surgery practice of Scott E. Kasden, M.D. in Argyle, TX to schedule a consultation.

"I Did It! Sick of Juvederm. - Southlake, TX - I have been using fillers for years and was looking for a more permanent solution. My aesthetician had the most beautiful lips. I commented and she divulged her secret. I decided to also go for some fat transfer as well. Facial filler have looked lovely but at $500 a syringe and several needed at a time it was an easy financial decision."

"I Did It! Sick of Juvederm. - Southlake, TX - I have been using fillers for years and was looking for a more permanent solution. My aesthetician had the most beautiful lips. I commented and she divulged her secret. I decided to also go for some fat transfer as well. Facial filler have looked lovely but at $500 a syringe and several needed at a time it was an easy financial decision. Updated on 27 Oct 2013: Things going well overall. Worse part is being house bound. Can't go out looking this way. Wish my husband was not here to see me. We are making jokes about it though. Able to eat alright.probable healing will be slower because I'm an older person. I have faith in my doctor and know this is a waiting game. Looking forward to wearing lipstick again.. Updated on 29 Oct 2013: Day 5. Still very bruised. I think I stopped my fish oil and aspirin therapy 1 week prior to surgery in stead of 2. The date crept up on me. So my excess bruising is my fault. The boredom is overwhelming. My lips are still swollen and a little numb on top. I can feel my implant with my fingers if I press my fingers on my lower lip, but only on half of it. The implant is 65mm wide so it has to stretch end to end, but wondering why I can't feel all of it. Can't wait for my follow up on Friday to be told all this is "normal". Updated on 29 Oct 2013: Updated on 1 Nov 2013: Ok. Back to the doctor for my follow up and to get my stitches out of the corners of my mouth. He reassured me the implants were where they should be and that they had not migrated. I read the story about the girl whose implants migrated and she had to rave them redone. I put some major makeup on just to see if I could master the cover up to return to work in 3 days. The bruises are still there but I'm so bored with staying home, because I never really felt bad. Updated on 8 Nov 2013: Updated on 14 Nov 2013: Updated on 16 Nov 2013: Im feeling a little down in the mouth. Ha. Ha. My upper implant has slipped to one side. You can see a visible lump and one side goes up especially when I smile. My husband doesn't like it either and her rarely comments on these things. My doctor wants to know what I want to do. It will be discussed after the holidays are over. There are no guarantees it won't slip again. I don't know why they can't tack it down in the middle or something. My mouth is wide and the biggest one is 2-1/2 inches wide. That probably had something to do with it. He said it would be equally as traumatic to go in a second time but I'm thinking the picket it already there. I must be the bad luck girl. I had breast implants that deflated and migrated long ago. Advice out there? Updated on 17 Nov 2013: Tried to post this picture yesterday, but was having difficulty from my hotel room due to sluggish Internet. When I smile one side of my lip goes up. I had an incision in the center of my upper lip also. I never saw anyone with that. I guess my mouth was so big he needed further access. In any case , I've decided to get the upper redone after Christmas. It's just not where it should be. You can see a lump where it ends outside my lip line higher on one side than the other. Wish me luck! Updated on 15 Apr 2014: The upper lip is off to one side with a lump sticking out. I also have a lump and scar in the center of my upper lip. The lower implant has settled on the left 2/3rds of my mouth and I'd outside the lip line."

"Dr Kasden is the Best! - Dr Kasden will talk to at length to find out exactly what is bothering you and what results you are wanting. He thouroughly explained everything to me and answered ALL my questions (and I had a lot). I chose to to the procedures in his office procedure room. I never felt anything. I swelled up a lot after my procedures, but Dr Kasden followed up with me constantly. When he takes you on as a patient - you work together as a team. When he says to call him if you have any concerns, he really means it! Dr Kasden did a neck lift and coblatiion on the skin around my eyes and mouth as well as he did some fat grafting to my eyes. I love my results! Not only is Dr Kasden a great surgeon, he is an artist - which I thinks helps him in his work. Dr Kasden’s staff is awesome as well! Sharon and Stephanie make you feel like old friends while always maintaining professionalism. I highly recommend Dr Kasden!"

IDEAL CANDIDATES FOR FACIAL FAT GRAFTING

Facial fat grafting is good if you want to add natural-looking volume to specific areas of your face. A facial fat transfer can fill in wrinkles like Crow's feet, laugh lines, and smile lines. Fat can also be used to improve the appearance of acne scars and sunken areas of your face. You can also add volume to your lips and cheeks for a more youthful appearance. Similar to the results of a wrinkle filler injection, like Juvéderm, a fat transfer is a good choice if you want your results to last for much longer. To be a good candidate for a facial fat grafting, you should have enough excess fat on your body to meet your goals.

SURGICAL TECHNIQUE FOR FACIAL FAT GRAFTING

Facial fat grafting is a two-part procedure that includes harvesting the fat and placement. Since such a small amount of fat is removed and grafted, Dr. Kasden typically uses local or twilight anesthesia. To begin, Dr. Kasden will perform liposuction to remove fat, which will probably come from your flanks, hips, or abdomen. Once the fat is harvested, it can be purified and then prepared for injection. Dr. Kasden will use different techniques and injection angles to ensure the highest immersion rate into your skin and to create smoothness. Based on your treatment plan, fat may be injected in your cheeks, lips, and/or under your eyes to add volume, as well as to fill in lines and facial pits.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM FACIAL FAT GRAFTING

After your facial fat transfer, your incisions will be closed and cleaned before you are sent to a recovery area. Dr. Kasden or a member of his team will apply dressings, compression garments, and monitor you until you can be safely sent home with a responsible adult. Before your surgery, Dr. Kasden will tell you what to expect during your recovery and how you can speed your healing. Follow-up appointments will need to be scheduled so Dr. Kasden can monitor your recovery and progress. Your recovery will vary based on how much fat was removed and transferred, but you should plan to take 1 – 2 weeks for your recovery. Initially, you may feel sore with bruising and swelling in the liposuction site(s) and your face. You may notice some improvements right away in your face, but it will take several weeks before you will be able to see your final results. A small amount of fat may be reabsorbed by your body, but with proper care, your results should last for many years.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT FACIAL FAT GRAFTING

How much does facial fat grafting cost?

The cost for a fat graft will include the liposuction to remove fat and will vary based on how much volume is being added. After a thorough assessment, Dr. Kasden will determine how much fat is needed to create the desired volume and will prepare a custom treatment plan. Then, he can begin to estimate costs, like facility and anesthesia fees. To make your facial fat grafting easier to afford, our office accepts many payment methods, including low-interest medical financing.

Should I get a dermal filler or fat transfer?

Both a fat transfer to the face and a dermal filler (like Juvéderm) can improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles, as well as adding volume to your face. While fillers can give you great results, a fat transfer often looks more natural and lasts longer. To help you decide how much fat you want to be added and where, Dr. Kasden may suggest starting with dermal fillers. Once you have figured out what you want, Dr. Kasden can perform a facial fat transfer for results that last years instead of months.

Can facial fat grafting be combined with another procedure?

Facial fat grafting can be combined with a nonsurgical treatment such as BOTOX (a wrinkle relaxer) or a skin treatment (for example, a facial). Facial fat grafting has also become a popular treatment to complement a facial surgery. A fat transfer can add volume that helps to improve the balance and proportion of your face, which enhances the surgical results of a facelift, neck lift, or chin augmentation. Talk to Dr. Kasden during your consultation about all your wants so he can create a comprehensive plan with surgical and nonsurgical treatments that help to reach all of your goals.

How long does facial fat grafting take?

The procedure time for a facial fat transfer will vary depending on how much fat is being removed, as well as the volume needed to attain the desired result. Once your treatment plan is created in your consultation, Dr. Kasden can go over what you should expect, including the time it will take for liposuction, fat preparation, and grafting. Dr. Kasden takes his time carefully grafting thin layers of fat with innovative techniques so your results look beautiful and natural.

Which areas of the face can be improved with fat grafting?

Facial fat grafting can be used in a number of locations to add volume or fill in wrinkles. Fat grafting is ideally designed to augment or enhance the mid-face or cheeks so that this area appears fuller and lifted without having to undergo surgery. In addition, it can also be used as a natural lip filler. You may also consider a fat transfer to fill the hollow or sunken areas under your eyes. Facial fat grafting can also improve the appearance of pitted acne scars, static wrinkles (brow furrows, marionette lines). Dr. Kasden will create your custom treatment plan to address one or more areas of your face based on your concerns and goals.
